Tussar silk, also called "wild silk", is a refined fiber obtained from a broad-winged, yellow-brown butterfly moth called Antheria Paphia.
Produced mainly in India, Tussar is highly valued for its natural golden colors, which it inherits from the Antheria Paphia butterfly. Tussar silk is much more textured than any other variety of silk.
The material is also cooler than the other varieties and is much more porous, therefore breathable. Being cooler than other varieties of silk, Tussar is extremely wearable in warmer parts of the world. Maintenance is relatively easy, you still need to protect it from stains and loss of shine.
We recommend dry cleaning. However, you can hand wash occasionally in warm water with a mild shampoo, such as baby or wool shampoo, while being extra careful with hand-tied tassels. After washing, lay it out as flat as possible.
It is ironed with a warm iron, but it is best to put a piece of paper or a cloth between the iron and the fabric.
