Tussar silk, also called "wild silk", is a fine fiber obtained from a broad-winged, yellowish-brown butterfly moth called Antheria Paphia.
Mainly produced in India, Tussar is highly prized for its natural golden colors, which it inherits from the Antheria Paphia butterfly. Tussar silk is much more textured than any other variety of silk.
The material is also cooler than the other varieties and is much more porous, therefore breathable. Being cooler than other types of silk makes Tussar extremely wearable in warmer parts of the world.
Maintenance is relatively easy, but you need to protect it from stains and loss of shine.
We recommend dry cleaning. However, you can hand wash occasionally in lukewarm water with a mild shampoo such as baby or wool shampoo, while being extra careful with hand-tied tassels.
After washing, lay it out as flat as possible. Iron with a warm iron, but it is best to put a piece of paper or cloth between the iron and the fabric.
